Installing

Windows

The Windows package is provided as an MSI Windows Installer file. Simply double click on this file and it will automatically install the program into your Program Files directory, most likely C:\Program Files\API Diff. The installer will also create entries in your programs menu with icons to run API Diff, read the help documentation, and uninstall the product. You can run API Diff by selecting the API Diff icon under the Start > All Programs > API Diff program menu.

Mac OS X

The Mac OS X package is provided as a DMG disk image. Simply double click on the DMG file to mount the disk image on your desktop. This will open a folder with the API Diff app icon. You can then drag this icon to your /Applications directory to install it. Double click on the API Diff.app icon to run the program.

Linux

The Linux package is provided as a TGZ gzipped tar file. The program was built under Ubuntu 10, but should work on other similar distributions. To extract the files from this archive and run the API Diff program, you can enter the following commands in your shell (where the % symbol represents your shell prompt, not a character that you type):

% tar xzf apidiff-1.3.tgz
% cd apidiff-1.3
% ./apidiff

What Next?

Once you’re able to run API Diff, you can read the packaged documentation to learn all about its capability, or you can read the latest online help documentation by clicking here.

API Diff also comes with a sample project to demonstrate its core functionality. You can open this project by clicking on the “Open the Demo Project” button on the initial dialog when you run API Diff. You can then press the “Compare” button to perform an API compare analysis and then browse the results.
